The Homeschool Mother's Journal: Tripping through the Tulips

Our trip to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm
(more pictures at the bottom of the page)

In my life this week…
We have had some incredibly busy weeks, so busy that I haven't had time to blog. This week was no exception. We started off on Monday with baseball practice for the boys. Destini and I stayed home to so she could start sewing her quilt that she will enter into the ACTS Student Convention we will be participating in in a few weeks.

Tuesday started off with a call from my husband that we had better go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm if we were going to get pictures to enter in the above mentioned convention. We packed up and made it there. We were able to walk around and take pictures for about 20 minutes and then it started raining. Delani was very disappointed because she wanted to swing and play. We left and then headed up to the library so I could start work.

I spent Wednesday trying to plan around a basketball practice that Caleb was to go to and found out later in the day that it was cancelled. That left me time to run all the errands that I needed to run.

Thursday was piano lesson day and then we made a quick run to Michael's before heading to church in the evening.

Friday was baseball practice again, which means that dinner has to be ready by 4 pm at the latest!

In our homeschool this week…
We had to spend some time trying to catch up from last week, plus get this week's work done. For the younger kids it isn't very hard to do, but for my high-schooler it can be hard.

Caleb is really enjoying John Adams by David McCullough and The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara that he has been listening to. During the day he is voluntarily narrating to his younger siblings all that he is learning.

Chantry has all of sudden seems to struggle in math, though he can do the work. I think it is just a matter of needing a little supervision. He has been trying to listen to an audio book while doing his math and it isn't working. He just finished Math U See Gamma and this week we spent time doing Xtramath and math drills.

Destini is working hard learning her fractions. This requires me to check her work since the answer key only give one answer with very high numbers. I have to say this is my one big gripe with Math U See. They don't put a lot of stress on the lowest common denominator.

I am inspired by…
I have been enjoying iHomeschool Network's "10 Days of...Series".

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Baseball, the tulip farm, piano lessons...
My favorite thing this week was…
Destini had fallen over this week and Delani came running into the room and put her arms around her and said, "It's okay, 'Elani's got you, it's okay, 'Elani's got you." Such a sweet little sister!

What’s working/not working for us…
Do I dare say it again? Science is not working for us. The book I had picked to use with the human body section of Biology 101 just wasn't a good pick for Caleb. We are going to try to use Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and to Physiology to complete this section.

Questions/thoughts I have…
Do I attend our homeschool convention or do I just go and shop the exhibits??

Things I’m working on…
-Destini's quilt.
-The kid's convention entries
-I did get my sewing done for Easter, but I have more that I would like to do.

I’m reading…

Check out my Reading Journals here and here.

I’m cooking…
Taco's, potato soup, and breakfast for supper. I also made Rice Krispy Treats twice this week!

I’m praying for…
Myself and my family.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

  1. How beautiful! Those tulips are lovely! We've anxiously awaiting my girl's flower garden to have flowers. They're getting there! Last year they even attracted a pair of hummingbirds!
