Growing Up

Delani (with frustration filler her voice): "I don't want to be two."

Mom: "You are 2 1/2."

Delani: "Nooooooooo. I not 2 1/2."

Mom: "Why don't you want to be two?"

Delani: "I want to be 'free (3)!"

Heard lately around the house...

"Delani, put mommy's phone back in her purse!"


"Delani, don't hit the phone buttons!"


"Mom, I think Delani called someone!"


"Delani, who are you talking to! Hello? Hello?"


"Delani, get off the chair!"


"Delani, don't turn on the computer!"


"Delani, don't send any emails!"


"Delani, DON'T. TOUCH. THE. COMPUTER!"

This kid is hysterical!

Chantry (6) announced to us tonight:
"I think I need to shave. See the hair on my upper lip. (pause) I'm not kidding!"

Theological Discussions of a Five Year Old

Chantry: Mom, who was born last?

Mom: You were.

Chantry: Who was born first?

Mom: Dad was.

Chantry: Nooooo, not him.

Mom: Oh, Caleb was. He is the first born child.

Chantry: Yea, he is.

Chantry: Mom, God says the last will be first, right?

Mom: Right!

If at first you don't succeed ...

Caleb had the saying "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." for his dictation this week. For some reason this saying has really impressed him and I've heard him saying it over and over. I happened to overhear this conversation between Caleb and Chantry today:

Caleb: "Chant, how does this end? If at first you don't succeed....

Chantry: "You don't quit!"

I know he didn't say it right, but he sure had the message down!

What is a favor?

This is the conversation that happened between Chantry and mom.

Chantry: "Mom, what does favor mean?"

Mom: "What does favor mean??!"

Mom: "Dad, what does favor mean?"

Dad: (No response)

Mom: Well,favor means to do something special for someone.

(Slight break in conversation as Chantry thinks about this.)

Chantry: "Mom, will you do a favor?"

Dad: (Laughing!!)
