Reading Goals for 2014

Reading Goals 2014

My biggest reason for setting reading goals is to read through my stash of books that I keep collecting. Many of the books on my list have been sitting on my shelves for quite a while and a few have been sitting there for just a few months. My goal with this list is to read the book and then decide if it stays on my shelf or goes out the door.

Not shown on my list is:
Bible Reading - I will be following the Two-Year plan.
My Classics Club list - Aiming for 10 books

Here is my list for 2014:
Handoff: The Only Way to Win the Race of Life by Jeff Myers  - A shelf sitter. (Mar. 4 - Great inspirational read. Going in re-sale or donation pile.)
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis - From my Classics list.
Invading the Privacy of God: Rush into God's Presence, Revitalize Your Prayer Life, Put an End to Devotional Boredom by Cecil Murphy - I have come across the title of this book many times in different books. I have had this book sitting on my shelf for quite a while. (Oct 15 - I found a few nuggets out of this book. Right now it will sit on the shelf until I can decide if I want to keep it or not.)
Choosing Gratitude: Your Journey to Joy by Nancy Leigh DeMoss - Carrie at Reading to Know gave this rave reviews. It took me quite a while to find a used copy and then it has languished on the shelf. (Jan 14 - Excellent read!)
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS by Thelma Meyer  - Another shelf sitter. Hopefully it will be inspiring. (Jan 26 - I can't say I learned anything new. Library donation.)
Boundaries with Kids: How Healthy Choices Grow Healthy Children by Henry Cloud & John Townsend  - This was a Goodwill purchase that has sat around for a couple of years.(Apr. 18 - Excellent book. Great resource to have on hand. Already loaned it out.)
Practicing Hospitality: The Joy of Serving Others by Pat Ennis & Lisa Tatlock  - This book has recently entered the house. Looks interesting so on the list is goes.Oct 24 - Sold.

7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker  - I have had this one for a couple of months. I honestly think I'm not going to care for this book, but on the other hand it sounds intriguing. Curiosity is going to kill the cat! (Attempted to read in February. Curiosity killed the cat.)
Am I Messing Up My Kids?: ...and Other Questions Every Mom Asks by Lysa TerKeurst  - I have this book for about a year. I bought this book because of the title--how can I not read a book with a title like that especially when I have asked myself that question many times. (May 14 - Enjoyed reading it. Re-sale or donation pile.)
Your Child's Writing Life: How to Inspire Confidence, Creativity, and Skill at Every Age by Pam Allyn  - I just picked this one up for a great price and I had a read a good review on it so I picked it up. (Sept. 4 - Donation)
Table for Eight: Raising a Large Family in a Small-Family World by Meagan Francis - Bought when Borders went out of business many moons ago. (Mar. 30 - Umm, nothing new. Library donation.)
The Life Ready Woman: Thriving in a Do-It-All World by Shaunti Feldhahn - Another Borders out-of-business sale book. (Oct 16 - Excellent read--a keeper.)
Photos: Style Recipes by Samantha Moss - And yet one more book from Borders. (They didn't go out of business because of me!) (Jan 6, donation)
One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life by Kerry & Chris Shook  - Goodwill find, but has sat on the shelf for a couple of years now. Nov. 25 - Undecided

Setting the Records Straight: How to Craft Homeschool Transcripts and Course Descriptions for College Admission and Scholarships by Lee Binz  - Bought last summer. A book I desperately need to read. (July 10, Keep for now.)
Get Creative with Type: Fun Typography Ideas and Tips for Scrapbooking by Brian Tippetts - Still working my way through my scrapbooking stash of books. (Feb. 12)
52 Scrapbooking Challenges by Elsie Flannigan - Another from the scrapbook stash. Yes, I know I should just scrapbook instead of read about it! (Oct 22 - A fun read--keep for now.)

  1. Instead of asking yourself if you're messing up your kids, have you considered reading Tim Kimmel's book Grace Based Parenting? It really helped to free me from the performance-based parenting paradigm (I love alliteration, what can I say?) ... although I still struggle with it from time to time. I need to re-read it one of these days.

  2. Some of these look really interesting, but I think I'll wait and let you read them first to tell me whether I should invest the time.
