I was introduced to The Mysterious Benedict Society
by Trenton Lee Stewart from Carrie at Reading to Know. She raves about this series so I had to go find out for myself. After reading the first one I passed them on to my kids and even since then they have been a BIG hit in our house.
"Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?" is asked in the first few pages in The Mysterious Benedict Society and thus begins the journey of four incredible children, Reynie, Kate, Constance, and Sticky or The Mysterious Benedict Society. After being trained by Mr. Benedict they must travel to a school where children are being trained by a mastermind who is scheming to take over the world. Many twists and turns in the story make this an exciting and suspenseful adventure. In The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey Reynie, Kate, Constance, and Sticky are back and they set out on a mission to rescue Mr. Benedict who has been kidnapped by his evil twin.
In The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma the four children must solve clues to a dangerous plot which puts their lives in great danger and challenges their friendship.
The latest book in the installment, The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict (The Mysterious Benedict Society),is really a prequel. It tells the story of Nicholas Benedict, the driving force behind The Mysterious Benedict Society, when he was a boy. With an exceptional gift for knowing things he sets out to solve a mystery which will change his life forever.
This series is Destini's (13) favorite books hands down. My boys also really enjoy them. They like how the kids have so many puzzles to solve and difficult situations that they have to extricate themselves from. Even though the feats accomplished by the children are for the most part not humanly possible, they are written in such a way that they are still believable.
We do have the books, but again this is another series that my kids love to listen to on audio. It is not unusual for us to have all four audio books checked out from the library and on a given day to find 3 kids in different rooms listening to different audio books from this series. High praise indeed!
Tomorrow I'll be sharing our current 'Great Kid's Books' favorite.

I was introduced to these books when my adult book club chose it for a monthly read! LOL We all loved the first in the series, and I've been trying to convince my daughter to read them.
