The Homeschool Mother's Journal: Half-Way Point

In my life this week…
This was a pretty easy week. We just had our normal schedule of school, work, errands, household duties and having fun.

We've had some beautiful weather the last couple of days and the kids have been able to go outside and play (8). I'm trying to enjoy it though I get frustrated since I know there is probably another 4 months of rain to look forward to.

In our homeschool this week…
We have made it to the half-way point in our school year. We have just another 18 weeks to go!

Destini & Chantry had this week off for science which should have made our week seem easier, but somehow it didn't. Go figure. In George Washington's World (5), they read about Marie Antoinette, who they did not like at all) and Lafayette. This book is a big hit this year.

Caleb is plugging away with his work. He also started up his art classes again. This semester he will be doing colored pencils. Dictation is going very well. I wished I would have started him on this a lot sooner that I did. He and Destini enjoy doing the reverse dictation that we do (6).

Delani is enjoying her little bit of schooling using Flowering Baby. This week we are reading about bugs.

A big achievement for us is that we actually did our Morning Time all five days this week (7), though a couple of days it actually occurred in the evening. We were also pretty faithful in our evening devotions. We should have started a new hymn and folksong, but I didn't have them ready so we spent another week just picking out of the book ones we have already done (3).
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I am inspired by…
How the word of God ministers to us when we need it. This was in my Bible reading this week and it was just what I needed.
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Caleb went to art class.
On Tuesday all the kids went to the library to pick out some books (1 & 2).

My favorite thing this week was…
I posted this on Facebook, so if you've read it please bear with me.

The other day  Delani walked in her bedroom and with regret in her voice said, "I don't know what to wear, that is what is bothering me."

Four year olds are great! She was really excited to get a bat, glove, and ball since she is going to play tee ball this year (9).

What’s working/not working for us…
This week everything seemed like it was working. Next week--we'll see!

Things I’m working on…
I got quite a bit of housework and ironing done this week. Yeah!!!
I also worked on quite a few blog posts. No crafts though--maybe next week.

I’m reading…

I’m cooking…
  • Homemade pizza
  • Tacos
  • Stroganoff chicken
  • Red Velvet Cake Roll - this was a total flop. It was tasted really good, but the cake didn't roll the way it should have so it looked terrible. Oh well, I guess that means I will be sticking with Red Velvet Cookies.
I’m grateful for…
Our church members.

I’m praying for…
My city, state, and church.

I shared earlier this week on A Non-Nature Mom's Guide to Winter Nature Study. Here is a little of nature we have been seeing lately.

  1. Yippee for good weeks! I started doing Spelling Wisdom the way you do with my eldest, though we didn't manage to get to the reverse dictation (which I think is the most fun). You did a lot of cooking this week!
