Bertie Plays the Blues (44 Scotland Street) by Alexander McCall Smith
His weekly appointment with his psychotherapist, Dr St Clair, was something he had tried to persuade his mother to abandon - to no avail - and he resigned to sitting through it, he imagined, until his eighteenth birthday. He was not sure why he had to do it, but all attempts to elicit an explanation from his mother had so far failed, and Dr St Clair's explanation had been distinctly less than satisfactory when he had taken the matter up with him. p. 22
I keep thinking I'll start reading Alexander McCall Smith's books, but I haven't done it yet! Is this book a mystery?
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser excerpt is from THE STORYTELLER by Sharon Tillotson.
I think I'd be a little frustrated as well! This seems like a fun book. Thanks for sharing! :)

I haven't tried his Scotland series but I couldn't even finish the first one in the Lady Detective series. Maybe I should give these a chance.
ReplyDeleteI have one book by this author that I haven't read yet....from The Women's Detective Agency series. But this one sounds better...thanks for sharing.

I get the feeling they are trying to tell the narrator he's crazy. Great Teaser.
ReplyDeleteThat must be frustrating! Wonder why his mom feels like he needs to see the therapist though??
