The Homeschool Mother's Journal: Life Goes On

Chantry and Destini (with help from Delani) doing the Camouflage
experiment from Exploring Creations with Zoology 3.

In my life this week…It was a pretty low key week.
-On Tuesday I had to redo our schedule since I needed to take Caleb to the dentist for a short visit. We also squeezed in haircuts for the boys since we were up in Portland.
-I had some goals to get some much needed housework done. I did get it finished, but not in my time frame which I found frustrating.
-The much dreaded ants have come back to visit--not fun! Even the exterminator who treats our house can't figure out why they won't stay away.
-Thursday and Friday ushered in overcast mornings and cool days. I am NOT ready for this, and it is so hard to get out of bed when it is gray outside.

In our homeschool this week…
We finished up our third week. This week felt more of a struggle, though I can't put my finger on why.

Chantry has started cursive again. I had stopped him at the end of last year and we worked on some fine motor development skills. I have him practice making the letters on the whiteboard first and then he does a couple of lines in his book. He is always frustrated when he starts a new letter, but I notice it isn't taking as long to get the strokes down and his letters look pretty good by the end of the week.

Destini and I finally finished up Beautiful Girlhood and the Beautiful Girlhood - Companion Guide. We had started this last year and for some reason didn't get it finished.

For writing Caleb has been doing Writing With Skill Level 1. I know this is intended to be for younger grades, but this is exactly what he needs right now. This is challenging him to reduce his written narrations way down.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
I came across this quote that I wrote down a couple of weeks ago while reading Echo in Celebration by Leigh Bortins which I found so encouraging.
If you are considering teaching your children from home, it will not make your days any easier, but it could allow more of God's laughter to permeate your family's passion to love life and learning together. (p. 9)

I’m praying for…
Our country.

  1. We tried to use Beautiful Girlhood this year, but unfortunately it wasn't a fit for us. I tried it last year too. I wish it would have! I've wanted to use it for so many years. *sigh*

    Have a blessed week,

    Sherry
