The Masqueraders

The Masqueraders by Georgette Heyer

"I've had suspicions of your secret since the first evening you dined with me here," he went on. "Of late I have been as certain as a man may be of so wild a masquerade."

Book Review: Beguiled by Deeanne Gist & J. Mark Bertrand

Beguiled

Book Description:
In the shadows of Charleston, someone is watching her... Rylee Monroe, a dogwalker in Charleston's wealthiest neighborhood, never feared the streets at night. But now a thief is terrorizing the area and worse, someone seems to be targeting her. Reporter Logan Woods is covering the break-ins with the hope of publishing them as a true-crime book. The more he digs, the more he realizes this beguiling dogwalker seems to be at the center of everything. As danger draws ever closer, Logan must choose: Chase the girl, the story, or plunge into the shadows after the villain who threatens everything?

My thoughts:
After reading many great reviews about Beguiled by Deeanne Gist & J. Mark Bertrand and having enjoyed Deeanne Gist's past books, I ordered it from the library. Beguiled was a suspensful and enjoyable read,  with interesting characters and a lovely setting. Even though early on I guessed who was the villian, I couldn't put the book down until I knew why everything was happening. If you like mysteries, Beguiled would be a great choice.

Book Review: Age of Opportunity by Paul David Tripp

Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens (Resources for Changing Lives)

Book Description:
Paul Tripp uncovers the heart issues affecting parents and their teenager during the often chaotic adolescent years. With wit, wisdom, humility, and compassion, he shows parents how to seize the countless opportunities to deepen communication, learn, and grow with their teenager.

My thoughts:
I heard many recommendations for Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens (Resources for Changing Lives) by Paul David Tripp for raising teenagers and decided to read it. Unfortunately, I found this book very difficult to read and I had a hard time following his train of thought. I did glean a few ideas that I believe will be helpful, but felt I had to read a lot of book to learn about these.

Book Review: Parenting in the Pew by Robbie Castleman

Parenting in the Pew: Guiding Your Children into the Joy of Worship

Book Description:
"Daddy, I'd like you to meet my children."
That's Robbie Castleman's attitude about taking her children to church. Sunday morning isn't a success if we have only managed to keep the kids quiet. There's more to church for kids than trying out their new coloring books. Children are at church for the same reason as Mom and Dad: for the privilege of worshiping God.

Because we are created to praise God both now and forever, we must take our children's worship seriously. Worship, Robbie writes, is "the most important thing you can ever train your child to do." With infectious passion, nitty-gritty advice and a touch of humor, she shows us how we can help our children (from toddlers to teenagers) enter into worship.

This expanded edition includes two new appendixes on the important issues of hyperactive children in worship and children's church for seekers. It also provides a study guide for personal reflection or group discussion. More than ever, Parenting in the Pew is essential reading for parents and worship leaders who want to help children make joyful noises to the Lord.

My thoughts:
Parenting in the Pew: Guiding Your Children into the Joy of Worship by Robbie Castleman is an unique little book about teaching your children to worship in church. With helpful tips the author show how to you can guide your children to learn how to be involved in the service. I felt that many of her suggestions were for a more traditional church service and but still gave me food for thought on how to apply it in our Pentecostal services. If you are desiring to teach your kids how to participate in church, rather than play, Parenting in the Pew: Guiding Your Children into the Joy of Worship is a wonderful encouraging read.

The Quick and the Dead

The Quick and the Dead by Louis L'amour

Book Description:

My thoughts:
I had to raid my husband's pile of books to find a "Q" book. I have not read this, but I have seen the film (that counts, right?).

Book Review: Word Gets Around by Lisa Wingate

Word Gets Around

Book Description:
When Romance Is In the Air, Word Gets Around Lauren Eldridge thought she'd wiped the dust of Daily, Texas, off her boots forever. Screenwriter Nate Heath thought he was out of second chances. Life's never that predictable, though. Cajoled by her father, Lauren is back in town helping train a skittish race horse set to star in a Hollywood film. But the handsome screenwriter gives her more trouble than the horse. And Nate is realizing there's a spark of magic in the project--and in the eyes of the girl who is so good with horses. Daily, Texas, has a way of offering hope, healing, and a little romance just when folks need it most.

My thoughts:
Word Gets Around by Lisa Wingate is the second book in the Daily, Texas series. I enjoyed reading this book since it was an easy and fun read. It has a cast full of fun characters, the right amount of humor, wonderful Texas drawls and of course, romance.
