I recently finished this book by Kate Douglas Wiggin and was greatly touched by it. I felt like I had read a great tribute to motherhood. The book starts off with the loss of a father and husband. Mother Carey must round up her "chickens" and move on with life. Even with all the creativity and ingenuity that the family have I found the characters to be very down to earth. I had initially bought this book with the intention of donating it to my library, but I have since decided it will go in my personal library with the hopes of rereading it in a year or two.
