Book Review: Sons of Thunder by Susan May Warren

Sons of Thunder (Brothers in Arms)

Book Description:

Sophie Frangos is torn between the love of two men and the promise that binds them all together. Markos Stavros loves Sophie from afar while battling his thirst for vengeance and his hunger for honor. Dino, his quiet and intelligent brother, simply wants to forget the horror that drove them from their Greek island home to start a new life in America. One of these "sons of thunder" offers a future she longs for, the other—the past she lost. From the sultry Chicago jazz clubs of the roaring twenties to the World War II battlefields of Europe to a final showdown in a Greek island village, they’ll discover betrayal, sacrifice and finally redemption. Most of all, when Sophie is forced to make her choice, she’ll learn that God honors the promises made by the Sons of Thunder.
My thoughts:

Wow! This book started off with a bang and it continued through out the whole book. It was not the book to pick up late at night, since I couldn't put it down once I started. I was caught up in Markos, Dino and Sophia's story and how it was going to turn out. This story has suspense, action, romance and ultimately God's forgiveness and grace to restore and heal.

Book Review: Doctor in Petticoats by Mary Connealy

Doctor in Petticoats (Sophie's Daughters)

Book Description:
Who Is Man Enough to be Doctor of Mosqueros, Texas?

When nurse Beth McClellan survives a stage coach accident, she soon realizes the derelict traveling alongside her is a doctor, and she forces him to help tend the injured. Alex Buchanan, army deserter, finds he can only care for the patients as long as Beth is right beside him, giving him courage. . .by yelling at him.

Beth thinks he’s a lunatic when he proposes that they marry and work together in her home town. But there’s no denying his skill, and she can see the emotional price Alex pays to help hurting people. Besides, she owes the guy for saving her own sister.

So she agrees to marry him.

And that’s when the real trouble begins. A murderous bounty hunter is on Alex’s trail. Alex only has to live long enough to turn himself in, and then he may face a firing squad. Not exactly the honeymoon of Beth’s dreams.

Alex may find the faith he lost while surrounded by the horrors of war, but will doing the right thing by facing his past, cost him his wife. . .and his life?

My thoughts:
I was excited to see Doctor in Petticoats (Sophie's Daughters) by Mary Connealy. I had to ask my library to order it and they so kindly did so. I have to admit I didn't even read the book description before I started the book and was pleasantly surprised to meet up with characters from her Lassoed in Texas Series. If I would have really read the cover the "Sophie's Daughters" would have let me know, but I just plunged right in and loved every minute of it. If you have read her previous books you will not be disappointed in Doctor in Petticoats. If you haven't read any of Mary Connealy's books, don't be afraid to pick up Doctor in Petticoats , it stands very well by itself.

The Tale of Oat Cake Crag (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter)

The Tale of Oat Cake Crag (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter) by Susan Wittig Albert

But as it turned out, the two had a great deal in common, for both Bailey and Thackeray (named for the famous novelist, William Makepeace Thackeray, author of Vanity Fair) were devoted bibliophiles who believed that "a book a day kept the world at bay," as Thackeray was fond of saying. Bailey was the offspring of generations of badgers who insisted that "Reader" was the most rewarding vocation to which a virtuous badger might be called and who gauged their week's anticipated pleasure by the height of the their to-be-read piles. p. 49

"I can't believe she ever thought this would work," Tristan mutters under his breath as we skate over to where Mrs. Bergson is waiting.

I'd like to see you in a scrimmage, Mr. Fancypants Berkeley!" I snap back at him, wishing I had my hockey stick to I could smack him with it. p. 138
